Anthos

I really like Anthos and have been there several times both for dinner and lunch. Unique in that it is an inventive take on Greek food, something I don't find very often. Some of the basic tastes may seem familiar (feta here, olives there); however, are constructed in an artful and highly tasty and satisfying way. The head chef is Michael Psilakis, who with Donatella Arpaia, also owns Kefi and Mia Dona. This is the most formal and haute of their restaurants, as Mia Dona and Kefi focus on a more casual, moderately priced approach to italian and greek respectively. The dining room itself is a bit boring, and the location (midtown, west 50s) leaves something to be desired. While dinner is a bit pricey, its probably the best time to sample a broad range of Psilakis' most interesting dishes - presentation is often pretty special - once had a lamb dish with perfectly cooked loin, a miniature cast iron skillet with a feta omelet, a dusting of chanterelles and a small glass jar of a head cheese made from lamb, all on a long and thin rectangular serving dish. The restaurant is not cheap (probably around 120 pp incl tax and tip), so if you want to try some of Psilakis' cuisine at a lower price point, I highly recommend going for lunch, where they offer one of my favorite burgers in the entire city, which is made from lamb, feta and a spicy pepper spread - the burger is incredibly juicy as the lamb meat is mixed with fat back and wrapped in caul fat. Important to note, while the burger is 20 dollars on the a la carte menu, every day they offer a 3 course menu, whose options include the great burger, for only 28 dollars - so basically you can have an appetizer and dessert for only 8 extra bucks! Lastly, they recently modified the upstairs private room into a more casual version of Anthos with a less expensive menu - I am excited to try and would like to hear people's feedback who have been so far.

Forget public opinion

And get your New York restaurant/nightlife suggestions from The Confoodant: reviews from the taste-buds you trust. The only way to become a confoodant is to be invited by one. Real reviews. Really reliable.

About me:

When it comes to choosing a restaurant, I always want a second opinion, so Yelp used to be a perfect solution (even though I never thought I would post my own reviews). Although their ranking system seemed overly manipulated, Yelp was a convenient source for restaurant info, so I constantly referenced it. But when highly rated restaurants on the site began to fall flat, I was inclined to set the record straight. Over 50 yelp reviews later, I had had enough and decided to create The Confoodant, a place where a network of trusted food enthusiasts could grow and post their opinions.

Is it just a blog?

Confoodant.com is still in development, but the network of confoodants has already begun to grow and are invited to post their reviews on The Confoodant blog until the real website is up and running. The blog doesn't provide the features that the full site will, but just think of it as a temporary home to start sharing restaurant tips with people you trust (and who trust you).
